Heylen Ready for his 2007 Champ Car Debut source: conquestracing.com Belgian driver Jan Heylen will be representing Conquest Racing and Belgian Champ Car Grand Prix through the 2007 season With just one day of testing to prepare him for the rigorous Portland International Raceway, Jan Heylen (#34 Champ Car Grand Prix of Belgium / Cosworth / DP01 / Bridgestone) will be making his 2007 debut this weekend at the Mazda Champ Car Grand Prix of Portland. His limited time in the new DP01 will make Portland an important race for both Heylen and the Conquest Racing team but both are confident in their ability to produce a strong showing and have a trouble-free race. Conquest Racing was able to get a full day of testing with Jan Heylen at Putnam Park last Friday and Heylen has been busy during Champ Car's six-week schedule break promoting the inaugural Belgian Champ Car Grand Prix at Circuit Zolder in Belgium. "I am very excited to be racing for Conquest and I have a good opportunity to compete in the series," began Heylen. "I am focused on getting solid results and I am looking forward to getting comfortable with the new car. I'm really eager to be racing again starting at Portland and I know that the entire team has worked hard to get us ready for this weekend's race." "We had a productive one-day test in Gingerman and we achieved what we wanted to do during the test," said Eric Bachelart, Conquest Racing team owner. "However, we will have still to do a lot of catch up with Jan especially considering that all the teams have been testing a lot during the seven week break. We have a good group of people behind Jan and I am confident we will improve every time we will go out. Our goal is to have a trouble-free weekend in Portland and we will have another two days of testing in Elkhart Lake before Cleveland which should help us get up to speed." In 2006, Heylen placed 14th in the Champ Car World Series Vanderbilt Cup standings and is looking to improve upon that finish with the Conquest Racing team. He completed his rookie season with four top-ten finishes, 14 starts and an recorded an impressive season-best finish of fifth in Cleveland. The Mazda Champ Car Grand Prix of Portland Presented by Joe's Sports and Outdoor kicks off on Friday, June 8th with qualifying. The green flag drops on the fourth round of the 2007 Champ Car World Series on Sunday, June 10th at 1:00 p.m. PST. The race will be broadcast live on ABC beginning at 4:00 p.m. EST.
