Conquest Racing's Jan Heylen Completes First Race and Feeling Confident source: conquestracing.com Despite a difficult finish, Conquest is happy with the results from the weekend While this may have been his first race of the 2007 season, #34 Champ Car Grand Prix of Belgium / Cosworth / DP01 / Bridgestone driver Jan Heylen had a strong performance giving Conquest Racing a lot to look forward to in the future. The race began with the implementation of the new standing start rule in which Heylen and all of the drivers completed without incident. He initially jumped up to tenth place and began running consistent laps which kept pace with the middle of the field. While the threat of rain was constantly overhead, the track stayed dry and the 17 competitors were able to finish the race without any yellow or red flags. Jan completed three clean and well-executed pit stops and near the end of the race, was neck and neck racing with Paul Tracy for a place in the top-ten. He was well on his way to give Conquest their best finish of the season when he unfortunately ran short on fuel, finishing 15th. "Overall, I'm happy with how the race went," began Heylen. "It is unfortunate what happened at the end and up until the last two laps, I think the entire team did a great job. We didn't necessarily have the fastest lap in the field but I think we were one of the most consistent cars out there. "It would have been nice to finish the race but that's racing and things happen. I was a little concerned with how the race would be physically for me after eight months off but I feel good. I think it's a good start for the Conquest Team and I'm happy with what we were able to accomplish this weekend." "We had a very good weekend until two laps from the end of the race when we suffered from fuel pick up problems," said team owner Eric Bachelart. "One second of extra fuel in the car would have prevented this problem and learned a lesson. Sometimes, you want to be optimum in everything you do and I guess we have not been conservative enough." "Jan, the crew and the engineering team have been working wonderfully together and I am confident we will do very well for the rest of the season. Jan has been impressive and I am really looking forward to Cleveland." Conquest Racing now looks forward to the fifth round of the 2007 season of the Champ Car World Series at the Grand Prix of Cleveland on Sunday, June 24th at 1:00 p.m. EST. The race will be broadcast live on CBS beginning at 1:00 p.m. EST.
