Da Matta back on top in Mid-Ohio
source: cart.com LEXINGTON, Ohio--Cristiano da Matta topped the speed charts in Saturday morning practice for Sunday's CART Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio, Round 11 of the 2002 CART FedEx Championship Series. Driving the Havoline Toyota/Lola, da Matta toured the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course with a top time of 1:06.505, good for an average speed of 122.228 miles per hour. It was the second day in a row that da Matta set the pace in the morning practice session. Bruno Junqueira was second fastest in the Target Toyota/Lola and da Matta's teammate Christian Fittipaldi was third in the Lilly Toyota/Lola. Junqueira had a top time of 1:06.551 (122.144 mph) while Fittipaldi had a top lap of 1:06.868 (121.565 mph). Rounding out the top five were Michael Andretti at 1:06.880 (121.543 mph) in the Motorola Honda/Lola and provisional polesitter Patrick Carpentier at 1:06.894 (121.519 mph) in the Player's/Indeck Ford-Cosworth/Reynard. Other top-10 runners in the session were Kenny Brack in the Target Toyota/Lola, Paul Tracy in the KOOL Honda/Lola, Tony Kanaan in the Pioneer/WorldCom Honda/Lola, Tora Takagi in the Pioneer/Denso Special Toyota/Reynard and Dario Franchitti in the KOOL Honda/Lola.
