No sooner is he out in American Le Mans Series action than he lines up a drive in the Champ Car World Series; it seems to be onward and upward at the moment for Scottish driver Ryan Dalziel who will make his debut in the American-based open wheel series at Toronto this weekend.
source: crash.net Dalziel is set to make his first career Champ Car start in this weekend's Molson Indy Toronto, having secured a deal to race the #19 American Medical Response Ford-Cosworth/Lola for Dale Coyne Racing. "This is obviously a fantastic opportunity for me and one I've been working towards since I first competed in North America back in 2002," says Dalziel of his drive. "I'm looking forward to driving the #19 American Medical Response entry for Dale Coyne Racing. I can't wait to strap in and finally race one of these cars having tested them on several occasions. I've raced against quite a few of the guys already on the grid and am looking forward to renewing some on-track rivalries. If all goes well then I'm hoping the opportunity extends beyond Toronto." As well as making his latest appearance in the ALMS this past weekend at Lime Rock, Dalziel has also been making something of a name forhimself in the rival Grand-Am Rolex Series. However, single-seaters is where his heart still lies, with back-to-back Toyota Atlantic Championship runner-up finishes to his credit in the past two years, collecting six wins and 19 podiums from 36 starts in Champ Car's feeder series. After Lime Rock, Dalziel tested with the Coyne team on Tuesday to get his first Champ Car seat-time since testing with PKV Racing back in November 2004. Team owner Dale Coyne is suitably impressed with his new charge who replaces Tarso Marques in the #19 car.
