Scottish Champ Car rookie Ryan Dalziel has admitted that he'd rather swap his
ALMS Corvette for another shot at a single-seater return in Edmonton this
weekend, but has vowed to return after a disappointing debut in
Toronto.
source: crash.net The former Toyota Atlantic race winner got his chance to step up to a full Champ Car race seat when asked to fill the second Dale Coyne Racing seat vacated when Oriol Servia moved to Newman/Haas Racing. However, after just one outing, in which Dalziel far from disgraced himself before finishing ninth, the Scot finds himself shunted aside by former HVM pilot Ronnie Bremer for this weekend's series' debut in Edmonton. "I'm pretty gutted, to be honest," he told Crash.net, "I don't feel I could have done anymore, and I don't think I could have been expected to do anymore, so to be pushed to one side for someone else is hard to take. "As for the rest of the season, if Bremer stays with Dale Coyne, then there isn't really anything there, but my goal has always been to secure a drive with PKV for 2006, and looked upon [Toronto] as a bonus for me. It's something that I didn't expect to happen, but I have no regrets about doing it and I'm glad that I did." After qualifying 16th of the 18 runners, Dalziel was powerless to prevent his weekend turning into a disappointment before recovering to take a top ten finish on debut. "I was disappointed with where we qualified but, looking at the weekend as a whole, we didn't get any seat time in the car and I've been out of single-seaters for so long," he reasoned, "I was jumping back in at the deep end, on one of my least favourite circuits, so the end result was what we aimed for. Obviously, it was a little bit by default, but Toronto is all about staying out of trouble and I think we did that and came away with what we deserved." The complete article here at Crash.net
