Darren Manning has tasted a Champ Car before, just not recently source: paddocktalk.com - rumors His last outing was back in 2003 when he raced the full season with Walker Racing (who became Team Australia). Other than a one-race stint at Rockingham England in 2002, that was the extent of his Champ Car career. The last two seasons he's raced in the IRL Indy Car series for Chip Ganassi. But in the middle of 2005, he was out of a job despite producing some of the top Toyota performances. Thus he promptly flew out to San Jose hoping to find his future at a Champ Car race. But nothing came of it. TSN is reporting that Manning would still like a crack at the Champ Car circuit. Manning apparently told reporters at the Autosport International Show that, "I am going back to the United States next week to talk to some Champ Car teams about a deal and it will be good to go back to road courses rather than doing those round-and-round things." The PaddockTalk Perspective: Darren is an extremely likeable guy. Unfortunately, things just haven't worked out. In the past, he's lacked financial backing, and with the available Champ Car seats, he's likely going to need it. We'd love to see him find his way back, we'd be surprised if it happens.
