For the last two years, the number of Champ Car teams, and cars has been pretty consistent... usually nine teams, and 18 cars with a extra car here and there
source: paddocktalk.com Along the way there, have been numerous rumors of new teams coming, or some teams defecting, or moving from another series to Champ Car. With the series starting to stretch its legs, and show some strong signs they are regaining strength, it appears as though the rumors of defections from other racing series are beginning again. Gerald Forsythe was quoted in a story at the Champ Car World Series website as saying, "A number of teams from other series have approached us and I'm very confident that you're going to see several teams join the Champ Car World Series for 2006." The PaddockTalk Perspective: Most definitions of the word 'several' mean between two and eight. Though adding teams to the Champ Car roster would be nice, we hardly believe it is required or even necessary. If Champ Car allows more teams to enter the series, we want to see strong competitive teams with real verifiable financial backing.... not marginal one-offs that turn into this week's weekend wanker. Strong teams make the series stronger. Weak teams are just an embarrassment to the series, and shouldn't be allowed. Maybe Champ Car should follow F1's lead, and require a realistic deposit to secure a place on the grid.
