A new role for the Dutchman as test and reserve driver source: F1.racing-live.com Robert Doornbos piped long-time Red Bull driver Scott Speed to the third seat at Red Bull Ferrari in 2006 and after a season working with first Jordan Toyota and then Minardi Cosworth. Now he is looking forward to his season with Red Bull. Doornbos' connection with Red Bull go back to his season alongside Vitantonio Liuzzi at Christian Horner's Red Bull backed Arden International F3000 team. While impressing with Minardi is his part-season with the Italian team, Doornbos was looking to move up the field in 2006. "The talks moved up a gear at the Chinese GP, when Mr. Mateschitz said he had been following my progress and that he would like to give me a chance," Doornbos stated whist testing at Circuit de Catalunya last week. "In the end, the contract actually got signed here in the race truck at Barcelona. Wow! That's a really Formula One way of doing things." Minardi of course operated on a fraction of the budget that Red Bull Racing enjoys. The difference was apparent immediately to the Dutch racer. "When I was in the factory in England I had already seen the difference between Red Bull Racing and Minardi," Doornbos explained. "In Minardi there were 80 people and here there are about five times that many, so it's a different world." While Formula One is always at the forefront of his mind, Doornbos is looking forward to the Christmas break where he will spend time skiing with friends and family in Switzerland.
