After taking a some time off last week to go over the 2007 Panoz DP01, Champ Car's test team returned to Central Florida to continue its marathon run of miles on the car that will carry the Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford into 2007 and beyond. source: champcarworldseries.com / Tom McGovern Roberto Moreno once again piloted the DP01 around the 1.67-mile Sebring International Raceway, completing 275 trouble-free miles on hot Florida day that saw storm clouds threaten in the late afternoon. The two-time Champ Car racewinner, Moreno ran repeated full-fuel stints pushing the car and all of its components. The car returned to Champ Car headquarters in Indianapolis last week after running 600 miles and went through technical inspection before returning to Florida for this week's three-day outing. Today marked the beginning of endurance testing on the car and all of it's components and the crew will make some minor changes overnight. "We are really putting the Panoz DP01 through the paces," said Champ Car Technical Director Scot Elkins. "We had a successful first test with it and now we are starting to really push all of the components on the car. We want to ensure the reliability on the car so we are putting it through all of the extremes. After our first test we gave the car a thorough inspection and were happy we didn't find any issues. We still have a lot of miles to go this week and we're confident the car is up to the task." The drastic change in weather from hot and humid to cool and windy gave Moreno and the engineers a chance to see how the car performed in a variety of weather conditions. . "The car continues to perform well," said Moreno. "Conditions were tough today and we did a lot of miles in a short time. We didn't have any problems with the car and I know we are going to run even more miles tomorrow. I know I'm quite happy with the progress and I think everyone else is too." The testing will continue Wednesday and Thursday in Sebring in the second of three separate sessions to take place before the end of this month.
