Earlier this month rising Canadian open-wheel racing star Michael Valiante made his Champ Car debut at the series' season finale, the Gran Premio Telemex Tecate at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City, driving for Walker Racing source: champweb.net This was yet another step towards the 25-year old Burnaby, B.C. native's life-long dream of pursuing a career on the world stage behind the wheel of a race car. Valiante, a former stand out in the Toyota Atlantic Series with Lynx Racing, had spent most of the 2004 race season sidelined by a lack of sponsorship and the state of uncertainty that still permeates much of the racing world in North America. He was originally scheduled to make his Champ Car debut with Walker Racing in last year's final race at Fontana until the event was cancelled due to wildfires in the area. Fulfilling his promise, team owner Derrick Walker stepped up again (with the help of a handful of sponsors) to give Michael a chance to showcase his talent in Mexico City.
