"CART needs a door opened right now" source: F1-Live.com - Robyn Schmidt According to reports Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone is attempting to buy into the predominately American based CART series, the 71-year-old holding secret talks with the top figures in the series. "I have had chats with [boss] Chris Pook on what could and couldn't be," Ecclestone admitted to the British magazine, Autosport. The CART series is in trouble right now with several teams and drivers dropping out to join the IRL. Michael Andretti and Dario Franchitti are the latest two to make the switch, leaving a much smaller field for next season. Engine manufacturers have also departed and in 2003 the entire field will run with Ford power. "CART needs a door opened right now and I am prepared to bring in the right people who can do that," major CART shareholder Jerry Forsythe explained. It appears as if Ecclestone is looking at the series as a feeder for Formula One.
