The 2005 Edmonton Grand Prix has finalized its track layout for the Finning International Speedway
source: Trans-Am Public Relations The 1.96-mile airport circuit will host the Trans-Am Series during the Champ Car World Series weekend July 15-17. The Toyota Atlantic Championship is also part of the Edmonton racing card. An official track map can be downloaded at edmontonchampcar.com. The race will mark a return for the Trans-Am Series to Alberta's capital city. The Series previously competed here, at Edmonton International Raceway in 1971 and 1973. "This event should be fitting return of the Trans-Am Series to Edmonton," said Trans-Am Executive Director John Clagett. "The airport layout is perfect for the door-to-door, nose-to-tail racing for which the Trans-Am Series is famous. Fans will see virtually the entire track during the event, giving them an up-close look at the racing action. The circuit also sports a wide racing surface and plenty of passing opportunities, so it should be a thrilling race." "The majority of the fans will be able to see 90% of the circuit," said Edmonton Grand Prix Director of Operations Tom Doerksen, "and that will certainly add to their enjoyment of the event. This track is different from the majority of circuits on the Champ Car and Trans-Am calendar. There are very few areas blocked by cement walls, making most of the track wide open for the spectators and the drivers. We're in the process of rebuilding and paving approximately 70% of the circuit to allow for the very best racing surface possible. We believe the fans and drivers alike will have a visual racing experience that very few venues can provide."
