Adrian Fernandez, who was forced to step down from driving duties with his
own team for the 2005 Indy Racing League season, will return to the track for
the 89th running of the Indianapolis 500 on 29 May.
Fernandez will join forces with motorsport veteran Morris Nunn to form the Mo
Nunn Fernandez Racing team for the race, with Investment Properties of America
coming in as primary sponsor of the #5 Panoz Honda.
"I am thrilled that this program with Adrian has come to fruition," Nunn said.
"We are going to one of the most prestigious races in the world with a
powerhouse combination that includes the driving talents of Adrian, the proven
Honda/Panoz combination and a progressive partner in Investment Properties of
America. I don't think you could put together a better recipe for success."
Fernandez returned to Indianapolis in 2004 after a nine-year absence and, after
qualifying sixth for what was only his third IRL event, picked up a seventh
place finish - the highest finishing position in the event for a Mexican driver.
Having focused so far this season on his role as a team owner, Fernandez said he
couldn't wait to be back behind the wheel.
"I am more than ready to get back in the saddle," said Fernandez, who has been
focusing on his role as an IndyCar Series team owner of late. "This is a great
opportunity to be able to partner with Morris, who I have known and respected
for a long time, and put together a competitive program with Honda and with the
support of Investment Properties of America.
