Those thousands of Mexicans cheering his every move should also help ease the pain. source: CART.com - Robin Miller Adrian Fernandez is hoping to be competing in next week's CART finale in his hometown and Dr. Terry Trammell is doing everything possible to make sure the 37-year-old veteran from Mexico City is combat-ready. After suffering a broken back in the scary first-lap melee in Australia, Fernandez came back to America sporting a neck brace and his game face. "If it was anywhere else, you know I'd probably not try to push it, but the race in Mexico City is going to be huge and it's very important to me and my sponsors I'm part of it," said Fernandez, whose Tecate/Quaker State/Telmex Honda/Lola was driven last Sunday at Fontana by Max Papis. "Dr. Trammell is optimistic and so am I." Trammell has already tested Fernandez for his pain tolerance. "Last weekend in California, I put him in his car after qualifying and basically beat on him," related Trammell, whose orthopedic magic has been working on race drivers for 20 years. "I pushed on his head and banged it around trying to simulate a load under braking. I pushed his head forward into the HANS Device tethers. "It didn't cause him any pain and he just has some underlying ache that is to be expected with that type of injury."
