As has already been reported in the news, near the end of Sunday warm up last weekend at Road America, Andreas Wirth was in an accident involving three cars and was unable to compete. source: Gail Shankland According to Dr. Chris Pinderski, Director of Medical Affairs for both Atlantics and Champ Car, Andreas suffered minor end plate fractures of his T6 and T8 thoracic vertebrae when his car made contact with Charles Zwolsman. Andreas was re-evaluated on Monday by series Chief Orthopedic Consultant Dr. Terry Trammell in Indianapolis to determine if he could race this week in Montreal. Andreas related this morning that he is in a lot of pain due to the injuries sustained in last weekend's accident, and is heading home to Germany. Andreas feels his time is best spent getting on the road to recovery as soon as possible, and will fly home today to begin his therapy. Naturally, Andreas is very disappointed about missing the Montreal events as well as last weeks race, because at that point, he was a serious contender for the championship. Though very disappointed, Andreas remains positive and is already looking forward to what next season will bring.
