A disappointed 16th placed Patrick Carpentier told his story after a
lap 21 contact that took him out of the race, "I was just being patient saving
fuel, using third gear in the second gear corners, saving the tires and planning
to be able to come into the pits two laps after everyone else (Bruno [Junqueira]
was doing the same behind me I think), when I was taken out by Sperafico who was
already two laps down by then ... he moved over the right side on the
straightaway - then it was like he had brain fade ... he just forgot to brake
and as I went around the outside of him he kept coming and there was nowhere for
me to go!"
