For the 2006 season source: irl.racing-live.com - ORS / CAPSIS International The 2006 IndyCar Series picture has become a little clearer in the past 24 hours with AJ Foyt Racing hiring Felipe Giaffone, and Honda confirming they will be the sole engine provider. The Foyt hiring fills one of the few open seats available on a team with primary sponsorship already in place. The only other funded drive currently available is the seat at Andretti Green Racing formerly occupied by Dan Wheldon. With Wheldon now employed by Ganassi Racing, the Klein Tools/Jim Beam ride at AGR is being pursued by Ryan Hunter-Reay, Tomas Scheckter and Vitor Meira among others. A formal teleconference has been scheduled for Thursday afternoon to discuss the details of the engine supplier plans. At Foyt Racing, Giaffone will take over for AJ Foyt, IV. The younger Foyt drove the ABC Supply Company sponsored car in 2005, but chose to leave his grandfather's team to pursue a NASCAR Busch Series opportunity outside of the family racing operation. This is the second time Foyt and Giaffone have combined, as the Brazilian drove for the team at the 2005 Indy 500 when a deal came together with just hours remaining in qualifying. "After working with Felipe at Indy last year, I was impressed," said the elder Foyt. Giaffone finished the race 15th after starting 33rd even though he was hampered by the feeble Toyota engine.
