When we're asked, "When is the Grand Prix?", we''re tempted to say that it's
already started! Indeed, in many ways, although the actual race weekend is
August 13th-15th (more on that in a moment), there are so many
community-oriented activities going on, that we have a full-blown, summer-long
festival on our hands, instead of the fast-moving weekend of years past.
Let's start with the dates: During our first two seasons, the Grand Prix of
Denver was held on Labor Day Weekend. Frankly, that was a mistake, and many
people told us so! As a result, we've moved to Mid-August, so now it's possible
to spend the Labor Day weekend elsewhere, without missing the race.
Well, actually, the FIVE races. The CENTRIX Financial Grand Prix of Denver is,
of course, the main event, but racing fans will also see four other races during
the weekend. They include: the annual Trans Am Race, a Toyota Atlantic
Championship Race, a brand-new BMW Race, and the return of a popular feature
from our first year, the Vintage Car Race. In addition to the action on the
course, there will be an XTREME Sports Zone, stunt bike demos, great food and
beverage vendors, a Kid Zone, and a Lifestyle Expo, during the entire race
weekend. Then there's the ROCK-n-ROAR concert on Saturday evening, August 14th,
with Sugar Ray!
Community involvement in the Grand Prix is the primary goal of CENTRIX
Financial's CEO Bob Sutton. "We're based here," Sutton said, "and we want to
throw a party for the entire community."
