Reynard 02I could be seen again in 2003

US racing car constructor Panoz G-Force could enter Champ Cars as early as
next season by taking over the rights to this year's Reynard, claims a story in
the week's AUTOSPORT.
Indy Racing League chassis builder G-Force, which comes under Don Panoz'z Elan
Motorsports Technology umbrella, is negotiating to buy the Reynard 02I project
from Walker Racing.
Derrick Walker's team bought the rights to the design after Reynard went bust in
March this year, but now wants to switch his team to Lolas for 2003.
G-Force believes that if it puts its resources behind the Reynard, the 02I would
be seen as a viable competitor for Lola's B2/00. Several new teams looking to
enter CART are known to view the Reynard as an option.
But there are several stumbling blocks to G-Force's CART entry. One is an IRL
insistence that constructors involved in its series do not build chassis for
Champ Cars. A second problem is the cost-cutting freeze imposed on front and
rear aerodynamics in CART this year. This may restrict the development G-Force
could under take on the 02I.
