As has been speculated for a little while, Indy Racing League CEO Tony George
will today [Wednesday] confirm that he is to start a family-run team with which
to prolong stepson Ed Carpenter's career in the series.
Under the auspices of a press call to reveal the latest additions to both the
IRL and supporting Infiniti Pro Series, George is expected to take the wraps off
a new operation which will rescue Carpenter from the sidelines after he was
dropped by Red Bull Cheever Racing in favour of Champ Car refugee Patrick
Carpentier. According to sources, George has already acquired a pair of Dallara
chassis from the now defunct Kelley Racing.
Del Playa Racing had been reported as taking over from Kelley, with Carpenter as
its driver, but the project was quietly dropped after plans failed to come
together.
No information was available regarding other possible 'additions' to either the
IRL or MIPS line-ups.
