Rocketsports rookie, Timo Glock, grabs a top-ten provisional qualifying result as Rocketsports Racing and the Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford ran for the first time on the 1.973-mile street course in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada today in preparations for the inaugural Grand Prix of Edmonton on Sunday
source: Rocketsports Racing Eighteen Champ Car drivers headed out this morning for their initial laps at Finning International Speedway, with the intentions to learn the track as fast as possible and keep the car in one piece. Both Rocketsports drivers Timo Glock and Ryan Hunter-Reay did just that, despite battling some down time due to several red flags throughout the day. Glock, who currently leads Andrew Ranger by three points in the Roshfrans Rookie-of-the-Year battle, posted the fastest time for a rookie in both sessions today. Happy with his #8 DHL Global Mail machine this afternoon, the German recorded a top-five spot upon completion of his 15-lap provisional qualifying run with a time of 1:00.121 (118.142 mph). With a few minutes still left in the session, the rookie was bumped down a few spots on the timing and scoring charts, finishing ninth overall and was the only rookie to be running in the top ten today. Champ Car veteran, Hunter-Reay, was quite impressed by the track, but knows more work needs to be done on his #31 Cytomax Sport Drink car. In search for more balance in the #31 Cytomax Sport Drink car, the American posted his fastest time of the day this afternoon after a hot lap timed at 1:00.916 (116.600). Sitting fourteenth on the provisional qualifying report does not satisfy the two-time race winner, but he feels that they are on track with where the team needs to be in order to be competitive tomorrow.
