Community section celebrates Foyt's 50 years in Indy car racing source: indycar.com / Dave Lewandowski Did you hear the one about A.J. Foyt and the lion? With 50 years in Indy car racing, the motorsports icon is bound to have a few interesting stories. Actually, give him the opportunity and he'll both wear you out and keep you laughing. Four Indianapolis 500 wins. Seven national championships. Sixty-seven victories. Foyt has accomplished more in his career than any driver could imagine. To help celebrate Foyt's 50th anniversary season, fans attending the 16 IndyCar Series domestic races can visit a unique walking timeline chronicling Foyt's unparalleled career. The timeline is 80 feet long and features pictures from the start of his Indy car driving career in 1957 to his first Indianapolis 500 triumph to his present role as owner of A.J. Foyt Racing, which has garnered two IndyCar Series championships and the 1999 victory in "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing." The display also incorporates memorabilia from Foyt's personal collection. Additionally, the walking timeline is flanked by the No. 14 Gilmore Racing Team Special, just like the car Foyt piloted to victory at the 1977 Indianapolis 500 and the No. 14 ABC Supply Co. Dallara/Honda/Firestone, similar to the car that is being driven by Darren Manning for A.J. Foyt Racing this season. Click for this special section » | Share your Foyt stories with Talkback » On indycar.com, photos that were used in the timeline will be incorporated on a special page in the Community section along with other interactive items. Stop by and send a note of congratulations to Foyt. Oh, the lion story: "DuQuoin was a good track for me, except for the time a lion got after my butt," Foyt related at a recent dinner. "That was a pretty bad experience. They had one there when everybody was qualifying. We were all standing there looking at this thing. People are out there running, qualifying. All of a sudden he jerked loose on that chain, pulled it out of the ground.
