Preparing for the 2004 Champ Car World Series, Mario Dominguez completed the first of three scheduled test days on the infield road course at California Speedway Tuesday.

2004 will mark Dominguez's third season in Champ Car and Herdez Competition team manager Vince Kremer is pleased with the team's improvements, "we made steady progress today, there were no hiccups and we walked through the test plan which included suspension geometry and various options to tighten up what we want to run this year. Mario ran a time in the mid 57-second range and we made positive strides forward. At the end of the day we completed a series of pit stops, practicing for the season and finalizing our over-the-wall crew. The team is excited and pumped up for the season; it is good to be back on the road."

Dominguez completed 132 miles (88 laps) in warm, windy conditions on the 1.488 - mile road course, "Michael (Cannon - race engineer) was keen to try a variety of set-ups today. Some worked and some didn't but that is how we learn and I am pleased with the progress we made. We tried some things that Michael is experienced with but that are new to me and at the end of the day I think we put in a very respectable time. We are learning a lot from each other, the engineer-driver relationship is very important and I think we are starting off on the right foot."

Herdez Competition's test program continues through Friday at the Fontana road course. The team heads east to Sebring International Raceway next week. For more information, please visit www.TeamHerdez.com.
