So the off-seasons are long.... and the winters get boring, especially with the limited testing that open-wheel drivers in the United States have available to them. source: paddocktalk.com - rumors And given that you're a young talented open-wheeler with connections to a NASCAR team owner... You race a few races with a top over your head. So it is with IRL IndyCar and Indianapolis 500 Champion Sam Hornish Jr. Though rumors last year slated Hornish to one of Penske's NASCAR efforts in a more permanent way, Hornish has been taking his time, and feeling things out. Today, he revealed that he'd like to take a run at the Brickyard 400. In fact, he's asking for a shot. Hornish Jr. said, "Well, I'm going to start trying to work on Roger a little bit as far as that goes. But we haven't had quite the success that we think we need to have yet (in NASCAR), but we know we've got quite a few more races before we get to that point. That will require a little bit of testing. " Hornish went on to say that the challenge might not be only for him, but also the team. "The toughest thing would probably be to have the resources to go and be able to do that. Obviously we wouldn't want to take anything away from what Kurt (Busch) and Ryan (Newman) are going to be able to do there. It would just have to be something that was well thought out. If they asked me to do it, I'd be on board for it, that's for sure." PaddockTalk Perspective Everytime one of the open-wheel stars takes an interest in NASCAR, concerned looks appear. Hopefully, this will be for fun for Sam, and he'll get his chance and do well. And then keep racing in IndyCar.
