2004 IRL IndyCar Champion Tony Kanaan qualified his Honda powered Andretti
Green car on Pole Position for the Indianapolis 500 from Sam Hornish Jr in his
Penske ahead of Scott Sharp and Danica Patrick. Here's what the driver's had to
say.
Tony Kanaan (1st)
"The Team 7-Eleven car ran great. I might have pushed a little too hard on the
first warm-up lap, but the car ran great. Waiting for qualifications to end was
very exciting, I told Kim (Green) that I'm going to have to check my heart
tomorrow morning, and I had my fingers crossed so hard that I almost broke both
of them. You can't drive a race car like that. It was a relief when they said I
could get out of the car."
Scott Sharp (3rd)
"I'm ecstatic. For us to come out in qualifying trim this morning, post our best
time of the month and back it up, well, that is just peaking at the right time.
This team focuses much more on the race and to end up at the front is
tremendous."
Danica Patrick (4th)
"I had some severe (wind-induced) oversteer and almost spun it on my first lap.
That really hurt my qualifying average (227.004mph) and, even though I was able
to make up a lot of ground, when you are two miles an hour off, you have a lot
of catching up to do. My Panoz has been handling beautifully all week and I
think we'll be a threat in the race."
