Series leader and pole sitter J.K. Vernay (Sam Schmidt) extended his leadership atop the Indy Lights Series standings by winning the Toronto 100.
Jean-Karl Vernay led all 50 laps in recording his fourth victory of the current season while, unfortunately, his main rival James Hinchcliffe finished his race in Turn 5 tire barrier. Dan Clarke (Deans Knight) finished second, his best finish of the season, while Gustavo Yacaman (Wayne Taylor Racing) finished third, also a season best. Vernay was pursued by fellow front-row starter Hinchcliffe throughout the event but on the final lap, the Canadian outbraked himself entering Turn 3 with Clarke and Yacaman capitalizing. Entering Turn 5, Hinchcliffe’s No. 2 TMR-Xtreme Coil Drilling car got the short end of bumping with the No. 26 Levemir FlexPen car driven by Charlie Kimball. Kimball went on to fourth place, with Stefan Wilson fifth in the No. 28 Bryan Herta Autosport car. Indy Lights Standings – After 7 of 13 rounds Pos. Driver Points 1. JK. Vernay 295 2. J.
