In order to attract much needed buzz around the Las Vegas event on October 16, Randy Bernard, the series’ CEO, is offering a $5 millions paycheck to any race car driver in the world outside of the IZOD IndyCar Series that can win the season’s finale.
That should be plenty of time for five potential challengers, being determined by a selection committee by mid-summer, to sharpen their oval racing skills to collect that huge money prize. Randy Bernard dovetailed the challenge with the IZOD IndyCar World Championships announcement at the chic Crystals CityCenter on the Las Vegas Strip. “We’re offering $5 million if any non-Indy car driver can show up and beat our guys at Vegas,” says Bernard. “We showcase our drivers as being the very best, fastest and most versatile in the world and we are putting our money where our mouth is.” Obviously, Randy Bernard would love to have Vegas natives Kurt and Kyle Busch give it a shot (NASCAR runs at Charlotte on Saturday night, so it’s possible). Title sponsor IZOD is also giving a free ticket to the Vegas finale to fans who buy a ticket at any IZOD INDYCAR race during the season.
