Englishman Alex Lloyd has signed a deal with Dale Coyne Racing to run in all this season's oval races while billionaire Donald Trump is pulling out of his duty as driver of the official pace car for the Indy 500.
Since the beginning of the 2011 season, Dale Coyne Racing’s No. 19 Dallara has been driven by four-time ChampCar series’ champion Sébastien Bourdais in the four streets and road course events so far. Bourdais is also set to drive for the remaining five non-oval events. That’s where Alex Lloyd gets back into action, beginning with this month's centennial Indy 500 where he finished fourth last year. In the meantime, Bourdais is back in Europe to resume his duties with car manufacturer Peugeot in the Le Mans Series. Businessman and TV personality Donald Trump has decided to pull out of driving the official pace car at the start of the upcoming Indianapolis 500 on May 29, with AJ Foyt favourite to step in. Trump informed the organisers of his decision to withdraw, ahead of a possible announcement that he will be standing as a candidate in the Republican primaries for the 2012 U.S. Presidential elections. TV network rules have strict limits on appearances by declared candidates in television shows.
