Auto123.com had an interview with 23-year-old Tristan Vautier, who is about to make his IndyCar debuts with team Sam Schmidt Motorsports.
After he made his racing debuts in Europe (Formula Renault and Formula Palmer), Tristan Vautier moved to United States to enter the Formula Mazda championship. He was crowned the next season, then moved up to Indy Lights championship, and claimed another title for his first season with team Sam Schmidt Motorsports.
Vautier had a promising run aboard an Indycar in december, which was followed by his announcement in the serie for 2013 in January. For his rookie season, The young Frenchman will still run with Sam Schmidt Motorsports, alongside his fellow countryman Simon Pagenaud, who is about to hit his second IndyCar full season. Auto123.com – Tell us about the weeks that followed your Indycar test, before the announcement of your 2013 IndyCar campain ? Tristan Vautier – The test really made the things move forward. I would say that the serious talks, and the negociations only began few days after that. But then, finalizing things and signing my contract took longer than expected. Did you doubt that the IndyCar program can be finalized ? I doubted a little before the test, although I never thought of giving up. How did you feel this time? It was long and intense, with a lot of work and pressure, but the pressure of working to have a contract in IndyCar, it is a good problem to have! How do you feel today, as an IndyCar driver? Not much different than before, except a lot of excitement for the upcoming season! What are your goals for this first season? I’m not aiming specific results, I focus on my work and what I need to do to perform and then look at the results! The IndyCar season will start on 24 March with the Grand Prix of St Petersburg, Florida.
