IndyCar: Full-time ride or nothing in 2012 says Paul TracyCanadian veteran racer Paul Tracy wants to be back in the IZOD IndyCar Series in 2012 but it will be in a full-time ride or not at all. He is done with the struggle of looking for a ride a each event.
It is fair to say that the results obtained in the partial program the former Champ Car champion was involved in this year were for the least disappointing; 12th at the first Texas race with the Dragon Racing squad being the highlight of his season. Worst, Tracy could only managed a distant 25th at the Indianapolis 500 in a one-off deal with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing. At 42, Tracy is not willing to repeat what he did last year - running part-time, no testing, no development whatsoever. If it is the only option he has left then he is adamant that he will hang-up his helmet for good. “I’d like to align myself with a team that has some sponsorship of its own; I have sponsorship to bring to the table too. I want to run a full season, to do all of the testing to develop the new chassis for the team, to do the tests with the engine manufacturer and to have a fighting chance to be competitive and get wins.” So far he had talks with quite a few teams but, the Canadian's best option to be with a team that has a fighting chance to get into the top 10 could be with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, and he’s believed to have another meeting scheduled with team owner Bobby Rahal next week. |
