IndyCar series’ veteran Ryan Briscoe will replace the injured James Hinchcliffe in Sunday’s running of the Indy 500.
Hinchcliffe was badly injured when his Dallara hit the wall almost straight on at full speed during testing.
The Canadian is improving and remains in stable condition following surgery May 18 for an injury to his pelvic area and upper left thigh suffered in a practice crash at Indianapolis Motor Speedway earlier in the day.
Ryan Briscoe is a nine-year veteran of the 500, having won the pole in 2012 for Team Penske. He qualified on the front row three times and raced last year for Ganassi Racing.
