Penske racing’s latest recruit, Frenchman Simon Pagenaud set the fastest lap time around NOLA Motorsports Park Tuesday during the first day of the IndyCar group test.
Pagenaud lapped the 2.6-mile road course in 78.9 seconds (1m18.9) in the No. 22 Penske Racing Dallara-Chevrolet. His teammate, reigning Verizon IndyCar series’ champion Will Power was second, followed by former Toro Rosso Formula 1 driver, Sebastien Bourdais. "On my side, the No. 22 car, it's a brand-new team with a lot to check off the list. We needed to get our systems sorted, and we did that quickly,” Pagenaud told RACER magazine. "We did a lot of work on the chassis, the engine, and went through a pretty heavy test item list," the Frenchman continued. Chevy powered cars took the four fastest spots. Carlos Munoz set the fastest time for Honda, clinching the fifth fastest time.
