Alex carried on his perfect season opening by dominating the 5th round of the Indy Pro series, topping the testing times, taking pole position, and leading every lap of the famous Milwaukee Mile to win his 5th race of the year. source: Alex-Lloyd.com Alex, who is backed by Clerical Medical and Manx Sports Aid Foundation, drove the #7 Lucas Oil car of Sam Schmidt Motorsports flawlessly throughout the event, and lapped all cars up to 4th place in the 100-lap race on the tight oval. "Until I came to the U.S. I really didn't have much of a clue about ovals", Alex explained later, "but they have very different characteristics, and require different car setups and different driving skills". "The Milwaukee Mile is a short, one-mile oval, and unlike the mile-and-a-half ovals and the Superspeedways, they are not driven flat out ... we have maybe a 40% lift through the fast corners, and they are driven more like a quick corner on a road course. "This, combined with very shallow banking and a short lap, meant that even though I was leading throughout the whole race, I had a lot of overtaking to do, and some of the drivers really didn't like being lapped!" "What a day," Alex said afterwards of the win. "I've been in Victory Lane twice in one day (referring to his pole-setting lap earlier). It's just been an unbelievable start to the year, I have such a great team behind me. I have never driven for a team that is so well prepared, so great at what they do, down to every individual. It's been so much fun to drive for these guys." Alex led all 100 laps to make it a record 5 wins out of 5 at the tricky Milwaukee Mile oval "The car was just fantastic as it has been all year" he concluded. "The last 11 laps we were just cruising around. The car was going perfectly and that allowed us to pull away. I was very pleased. It's just a testament to the whole Sam Schmidt Motorsports organisation and Lucas Oil. We've done a great job all season. Great car and I am really thrilled to be here." "I don't expect to be able to win every race this year, but I am taking it one race at a time, and we'll see how the season unfolds", he said. The next race is in two weeks time, back on the road course at Indianapolis, the support race to the F1 Grand Prix, which Alex won last year.
