Clerical Medical and Manx Sports Aid Foundation backed 22-year-old Alex Lloyd claimed the first win at the opening round of the Indy Pro Series at the Homestead Miami Speedway on Saturday March 24th in the Sam Schmidt Motorsports car, sponsored by Lucas Oil/Isilon Systems. source: Alex-Lloyd.com It was Alex's first win on an oval. Alex qualified 2nd on the grid after qualifying took place under the lights. "I think we were all a little disappointed we missed out on pole" said Alex. "We had the car to do but ran the wrong gear. Second is still good though and I know we have a great race car." At the start of the 67 lap race, Alex quickly asserted himself into the lead. A position he would hold onto until the end. The race was cut short after there were 2 major incidents so the race finished under yellow. "We had a good day today", Alex commented. "We just had to put it together to win the race - and we did that. It was a shame we weren't able to have a green finish, and of course it's mixed emotions with the accidents that took place and I wish everybody involved the best. We had a great car and I was comfortable at the front so it is a great perfect way to start off our season." "Certainly, we're running through the gambit of emotions all weekend long and certainly at the end of the race. On one hand, we have a guy at the hospital and hope he's okay, but at the same time, I'm ecstatic for all the sponsors that are here - LUCAS OIL, Isilon Systems, FlaCondos.net, everybody. We'll take our win and our spoils, and hopefully the drivers involved in the accident get better soon." Sam Schmidt, team owner said. Both Alex and the team are looking forward to next weekend's double header at St Petersburg, FL March 31st and April 1st.
