Fewer days but private testing returns source: irl.racing-live.com The Indy Racing League has announced the testing rules for their 2006 IndyCar and Pro Series participants. Featuring fewer test days but enhanced flexibility for the individual teams, the IndyCar Series entrants will be allotted eight test days with the opportunity to earn up to six additional "Bonus Days" via participation in the Pro Series. Beginning on January 1st, 2006, teams will be given a total of three private test dates to use on the date and track of their choosing. The teams will also get four days of IRL sanctioned 'Open Tests', along with a single day of engine manufacturer testing. The private testing "gives some flexibility for the teams in terms of the tracks you test to work on your particular issues," said Doug Boles, co-owner of Panther Racing. "In the past you kind of had to go where the engine manufacturer wanted you to go." Under the new rules, multi-car and single car teams will both be treated as a single "entrant". The test day belongs to the "team" and they can run as many of their own cars as they wish, including using extra driver's in spare cars if they desire. This would allow a normally single car team to put a second driver into a back-up car for the purposes of gathering additional data.
