IRL Founder Tony George threw the Indianapolis Star under the bus for a story that had a couple of new interesting updates, but is now being said to be 'fabricated'.... at least part of it. source: paddocktalk.com - rumors He took the opportunity to remove any real hope of progress on Indianapolis WISH TV saying, "It's so far from being close to being done, It's not even worth talking about." Which part does George seem to object to the most.... The seemingly innocent, yet perfectly sensible opportunity for the two series to show some level of cooperation by racing at each others venues a couple of times next season. As for a detail attributed to Champ Car co-owner Kevin Kalkhoven that the investment into the DP01 isn't something that one just throws away, no one seems to be commenting yet. As for the detail that the two sides have come to a decision that they should share control with a third party to break the tie should George and Kalkhoven fail to find agreement... that was reported a week or so ago at SpeedTV. While the Star story indicated Mario Andretti, Rick Mears might be good choices. The SpeedTV version seemed to like former Champ Car team owner Steve Horne. But what was more interesting is the lack of communication between the two series leaders about how to handle the situation in a unified manner. While George was killing off hope in Indy, Kevin Kalkhoven apparently didn't get the same set of talking points in Cleveland. The Plain Dealer is quoting Kalkhoven as saying, "The (Indianapolis Star) story is accurate, the headline is not." So which is it gentlemen ? The PaddockTalk Perspective: There it is... two sides to a story that the two parties should be presenting a unified approach on. The two series should have issued a joint press release on the topic if there truely is a problem with the report in the Star. The two series should have been saying the same thing. But they aren't. This doesn't bode well for those who have any hope that any real progress is being made, and that merger will happen at all.
