Goodbye Toyota, hello lower cost engines source: paddocktalk.com At least that's one take on an IRL IndyCar future without engine manufacturer Toyota. Autoweek is reporting that League President Brian Barnhart is working to help IRL IndyCar teams to reduce engine costs by 'encouraging Honda to reduce its engine lease program from the estimated $1.7 million for 17 races this season to $900,000 for 14 next season.' What magic could make this work ? Longer engine life, and Honda being the sole supplier. The PaddockTalk Perspective: Other than owning their own engine manufacturer (i.e. Champ Car/Cosworth), long-life engines, and sole supplier have been key ingredients in lowering costs in a number of racing series over the years.
