Chip Ganassi's Scott Dixon beat everyone for the pole for the inaugural race at Homestead in the IRL Series. His Ganassi teammate Dan Wheldon who had dominated the first two practice sessions crashed on his qualifying run and will start last.
Vision's Ed Carpenter and AJ Foyt IV secured second and third respectively ahead of Andretti Green's Danica Patrick. Conquest Racing Franck Perera was the best of the Champ Car drivers with a 15th place. Rookie Jay Howard also crashed on his run. He required medical assistance to get out of his Roth Dallara, but like Wheldon he was eventually given a clean bill of health.
