Tony the Tiger keeps pressure on title rivals. source: crash.net Brazilian driver scoops his fourth win of the season as Franchitti's bid falls apart in the closing stages. Tony Kanaan drove to his season leading fourth win of the 2007 Indycar Series championship campaign in dominant fashion at the 1.5-mile Kentucky Speedway on Saturday evening. The Brazilian born driver moved ahead of Dario Franchitti and Scott Dixon (tied on three wins apiece) in the seasonal victory standings as he tenaciously kept his own championship hopes alive on what was an incident filled summers evening in the Bluegrass State. From pole position Kanaan kept his nose ahead of fellow front row starter Franchitti during the early stages of the 200-lap race before slipping behind his AGR teammate during the first round of pitstops on lap 38. Although Kanaan would lose the lead twice more on pit road during the course of the race, on both occasions he was able to retake the lead with apparent ease on a night where the #11 Dallara-Honda was easily the strongest car on track. The first round of stops was precipitated by Sam Hornish Jr's lurid turn two spin, which also swept up the unfortunate Dan Wheldon and it was Franchitti who then proceeded to pace the field until the only round of green flag stops shortly before the half way point. A fast green flag stop allowed Kanaan to cycle through into the lead and he ran pretty much untroubled until the second caution period of the evening on lap 126 for debris in turn two. On this occasion it was Dixon who had the best stop and the Target Chip Ganassi Racing man emerged in the lead for the restart. However Kanaan soon showed his restart prowess and glided by on the high side before the end of the first green flag lap with Franchitti trying to follow suit a lap later. However the Scotsman could get alongside the stubborn Kiwi but Dixon resolutely clung to the low line and managed to keep the nose of the #9 Dallara-Honda just ahead.
