The Best and the Worst of each series. By Iain Shankland Well I promised to surprise you in part 2 and here it is... AUTOGRAPH SESSIONS... One area where the IRL really kicks-butt, is with their autograph sessions. Champ Car should take a good look at what the IRL are doing here and copy it. The IRL is truly fan-friendly when it comes to making the drivers available for the autograph session. In Homestead there was plenty of time for everyone to get the autographs of their favorite driver. Watkins Glen wasn't quite as good, but was still way better than either the Montreal or Toronto Champ Car events. At the IRL events the drivers are set up throughout the paddock area and fans can walk around and take pictures of the drivers without having to get in line. The lines aren't too long either because the fans go to the driver that they want an autograph from. With Champ Car, the fans have to get in line - there are two lines - and hope they are in the right one for the driver they want. They have to walk past and get autographs of drivers they may not even be interested in - just to get to their favorite driver. Once you get to your driver don't even think about talking to them or stopping to take a picture! "Keep moving!!" That's all you hear from the security people. This year Montreal was a little different - there was only one line - but it was huge! The drivers never seem to be "into" the whole event. It's seems more like an inconvenience to them. They do their time and get out as quickly as possible. The IRL events are very laid-back and no one is anxious to leave. I must say that Paul Tracy has to be the most unsociable driver I've ever seen. All too often when someone comes near him he picks up his phone and "talks" to someone.
