Dan Wheldon, as expected, was at ease at the Miami oval of Homestead as he dominated the first practice for this week-end IRL season opener. He finished just ahead of his Ganassi teammate Scott Dixon.
Ex-Champ Car teams were not able to be very much competitive with only Newman-Haas-Lanigan's Justin Wilson the best of the 'transition' drivers in 16th overall. Of course, all the leaders were from the three dominant teams, Ganassi, Penske and Andretti-Green. No major incidents to be reported except for the usual yellows for debris and track inspections after drivers reported cut tyres. Pos Driver Team Time Speed 1. Dan Wheldon Ganassi 25.0037 213.808 2.
