Will Power (Penske - photo) and Nelson Philippe (Conquest) are on their way to the hospital after being involved in a serious crash during Saturday practice for the IndyCar series race at Sears Point.
Frenchman Philippe had spun over the blind crest on the exit of Turn 4 and come to rest with his car parked on the racing line when, almost immediately, EJ Viso (HVM) clipped the front end of Philippe's car with his left rear wheel, breaking his suspension and smashing the Conquest Dallara's front wing. Power arrived moments later and was unable to avoid ploughing into the side of Philippe's machine. Both drivers had to be removed from their cars under medical supervision, and Power has now been transferred to the hospital by helicopter for back pain to be assessed. Will Power and Nelson Philippe sustained broken vertebrae and a leg fracture respectively. Photos: IRL
