With ten starts in the FIA F3000 in 2004, he had a best finish of sixth
place. In Lauda's opinion, graduating to the GP2 series is not in his best
interest.
"It is easier to find a budget of three million dollars for Champ Cars than 1.2
million for a series such as the GP2, where no one knows how it will evolve,"
stated Lukas Lauda, Mathias' brother and manager. "More so, if you are
performing nicely in Champ Cars as a rookie, as seventh or so, you are the hero.
If you finish third or fourth in GP2, no one will give a toss."
Rumors stipulate that Lukas is currently in the Chicago area attempting to sign
a deal with Forsythe. If a deal is sgined, the young Mathias would line up next
to Paul Tracy, Rodolfo Lavin, and possibly a fourth driver within the Forsythe
stable.
"Mr. Forsythe even wants to invest some money into the career of Mathias," said
Lukas.
