Speaking from California Jan Heylen said: "I am delighted to be able to announce signing for Dale Coyne Racing. This has come after months of hard work behind the scenes with my management and sponsors Raf Vanthoor (BergHOFF) and Harry Muermans (Muermans Group). I would like to thank everyone for their efforts. Having Cristiano Da Matta as a team mate will be a great help in my first year with all his experience. I look forward to working alongside him to bring the team success. I feel Champ Cars is a great move for my career. I am very motivated to carry on from my recent successful Champ Car tests and I cannot wait for the first race which is only days away." Jan Heylen's racing career in the past has been very successful. In 2005 he was crowned Renault Mégane World Series champion. Earlier successes include international F3000, F3 Euroseries and the winner of the highly prestigious Formula Ford Festival in 2002. On the announcement of this deal, Jan Heylen will now become one of the few Belgian racing drivers ever to make it to the highest level in international motorsport. Previous Belgian legends include Thierry Boutsen and Jacky Ickx. Champ Car World Series is the American equivalent of Formula 1. The championship consists of 15 races across America, Canada, Mexico, South Korea and Australia, making it a truly international championship. The cars are all powered by a Cosworth 2.65 V8 Bi turbo engine which produces 750bhp, the same as a modern F1 car.
