Brazil's Bruno Junqueira is hoping history can repeat and his Newman/Haas Racing team has a one-two finish at this year's Champ Car round on the Gold Coast. source: news.ninemsn.com.au Junqueira, the 2004 champion, wants to become the first repeat winner of the glamour event since its inception 15 years ago. He missed the race on the 4.46km Surfers Paradise street circuit last year because of a broken back suffered in the Indianapolis 500 and put him on a seven-month road to rehabilitation. Veteran Oriol Servia of Spain took his place and finished runner-up in the Champ Car World Series standings. In 2004 Junqueira triumphed on the Gold Coast ahead of teammate Sebastien Bourdais, who only needs to finish ninth or better on Sunday to secure back-to-back championships. "I hope I can win the race and Sebastien finishes second like in 2004," the 29-year-old Junqueira said after arriving on the tourist strip. "That'll be good for him and better for him (but) I'm just thinking about myself." Junqueira has always had a special affinity with the Surfers Paradise track. "It's one of my favourite events," he said. "Missing last year because of my injuries really hurt and watching it on TV was sad, especially because I won in 2004. "I just want to win the race and if I do, I'll be the first repeat winner. "There are some special races you want to win and here is one of them. "I'm confident. I like this track a lot and I always go fast here." Junqueira, sixth in the overall standings, has good reason to be confident. He's coming off a second place at Road America at Wisconsin - one of three runner-up finishes this season. "Every time I race at Surfers Paradise I've been up front so I'm hoping it's another year like that," he said. "I'm thinking on Friday I have to go fast in the car and do a good qualifying session and Sunday I'll think about what I have to do to win the race."
