Having lost his crown to Dan Wheldon in 2005, Tony Kanaan will be looking to regain his Indy Racing League title after confirmation that the Brazilian will return to the cockpit of the Team 7-Eleven Dallara of Andretti Green Racing. source: crash.net Kanaan missed out on the title last season despite completing a series-record string of 18-consecutive top-five finishes (dating back to the 2004 season) as well as set an Indy Car Series record of 25 consecutive races finished (dating to the June, 2003 Texas race and ending at Richmond in 2005). The 2004 champion also led 375 laps in 2005, upping his career total to 1,624 and moving him into second place among Indy Car Series career lap leaders. "Team 7-Eleven has accomplished a lot over the past three seasons," he said. "We won a championship two years ago and finished second this past year so I'm ready to win another one. But Team 7-Eleven goes much further than just me or the crew. It extends to everyone involved with our program, including 7-Eleven's vendors, suppliers and the people who operate the various franchises. "It has been because of this collective effort that we have achieved what we have. Now we need to focus on 2006 and see what we can achieve." Kim Green, president of Andretti Green Racing said he felt confident that Kanaan would be in the running to secure the title during 2006, adding that the Brazilian was a driver who would always give 110 per cent in his quest for success. "There may not be a fiercer competitor, nor a better corporate spokesperson than Tony Kanaan," he said. "His conduct and performance since joining Team 7-Eleven and Andretti Green Racing have been nothing short of remarkable. You always know that he will give it his best on the track and that's all you can ask. I believe that we'll see Tony and Team-7 Eleven at the front of the Indy Car Series championship fight again this year."
