Although most casual race fans may not have heard of Katherine Legge, many in the Champ Car community are familiar with the name and her status
source: paddocktalk.com - Brad Gerhart Legge quietly became the first woman to win a top open-wheel support series event in North America. In her first Toyota Atlantic start, Legge crossed the finish line in spectacular fashion as she won the season opener in Long Beach, California. In Edmonton, Legge won again. Despite the success, Champ Car co-owner Kevin Kalkhoven is in no rush to move the talented young lady up to Champ Car next year. He would much prefer that she enhance her racing skills in the Atlatnic series for at least one more year. "With Katherine, she's not automatically assured a drive in Champ Car. She has to prove her worth because I'm not going to endanger other drivers by putting someone who is not prepared for Champ Cars in the seat," explained Kalkhoven. "Having said that, I think she is going to be a strong and competitive driver. She has to earn her stripes." Through her first eight races in Atlantics, Legge is fifth in driver points (176) just 40 points behind series leader Charles Zwolsman (216 points). She has been working hard to make an impression on the track, and off. The work on the race track, maybe the easy part.
