With the American Le Mans Series winter test out of the way, it was the turn of the Champ Car World Series to hit the track at Sebring on Thursday as PKV Racing and Newman Haas took part in testing at the Florida circuit. source: crash.net The test enabled British driver Katherine Legge to get behind the wheel of the PKV machine for the third time, having tested for two days before Christmas, as she continues to work towards her goal of securing a place on the Champ Car grid for the 2006 season with the Crash.net columnist completing more than 200 miles of running around the Sebring short course on the opening day of the test. The 25-year-old had a productive day as she worked on a number of race-related issues, including pit stops and she admitted it had been different to anything she had done before. "It was an interesting day," she said. "I've never had to do pit stops before and we did about 20 of them today. It's a little bit different. This whole thing is a learning process and it's exciting but it's a little frustrating at the same time. "You see guys like Bruno [Junqueira] and I want to be as good as they are right now! I want to do all my learning at once but I know that it doesn't work like that. It's a learning process and I have to remember that every thing I do on days like this makes me a better driver." The three-time Toyota Atlantic race winner was joined on track by former Renault F1 test driver Franck Montagny - who was also testing with PKV [see separate story] - and Newman Haas star Bruno Junqueira who continued his rehabilitation from injury by running in the morning ahead of a full day of testing on Friday. Legge will also be back on track on Friday when she is expected to undertake a full race simulation - complete with more pit stops.
