Clerical Medical and Manx Sports Aid Foundation backed 22-year-old Alex Lloyd got his first taste of an IndyCar machine last Thursday, when he tested for Target Chip Ganassi Racing at Sebring in Florida. source: Alex-Lloyd.com Alex shared the day with 2003 IndyCar Series champion Scott Dixon. For Alex this was a great opportunity for him to show what he can do in the 3.5 litre V8 machine, and compare and learn from arguably the best road racer in the series right now. Dixon and the Target Chip Ganassi Racing team currently lie 2nd in the series just 8 points back with 3 races to go. The test began with Dixon running in the morning. Lloyd watched and absorbed as much information as possible while waiting for his turn after lunch. At 1.30pm Alex put on his helmet and got strapped in. He ran for a couple of hours with 2 new sets of tires giving him an opportunity to get up to speed, make some changes to the car, and get a feel for the way to get the most out of an IndyCar Series machine. After his impressive run Dixon was back in the car to finish off the day. "It was a great feeling for me to have my first IndyCar test with Target Chip Ganassi Racing," Stated Lloyd. "The cars are a big step forward in terms of power and downforce compared to the Indy Pro Series car. This meant the driving style differed slightly. To have Scott Dixon's data to compare myself to was invaluable and helped me a great deal." "I am extremely pleased with how the test went. I was able to contribute to the test program for the day and my times were right there. This confirms what I already believed, that I am ready and capable to win in the IndyCar Series. I learnt a huge amount in the test and can't thank the whole team enough for this opportunity. I am looking forward to getting back into an IndyCar in the near future, in my quest for a front running drive in the 2008 IndyCar Series." Alex will be back in the Indy Pro Series this weekend for a double header on the road course at Sonoma CA. Lloyd stands a great chance of wrapping up the championship during the weekend and you can watch all the practice sessions and races live on www.Indycar.com/pro
