Chip Ganassi Racing teammates Scott Dixon and Darren Manning have all but
been officially confirmed as part of their boss' three-car Daytona Prototype
assault on the 2005 Rolex 24 Hours Grand-Am event at the fabled Daytona
International Speedway.
After an impressive debut behind the wheel of one of Ganassi's Riley-Lexus' in
the 2004 Grand-Am finale in Fontana, the IRL IndyCar Series duo could join
Ganassi's NASCAR Nextel Cup driver Casey Mears in the team's #03 entry. An
official statement is expected on Saturday as to which of Ganassi's entries they
will collectively join.
Spaces also still remain open in the team's leading #01 machine, currently
slated to be driven by defending series Champion Scott Pruett and former Indy
Lights and Toyota Atlantic starlet Luis Diaz in the Comp USA sponsored machine,
although sponsorship requirements may dictate otherwise.
The February 5th-6th event has drawn a stellar field of cars and drivers and
after taking a podium finish on their Grand-Am debut last October, the
Anglo-Kiwi-Ganassi connection should provide whichever machine they eventually
race with an excellent chance of overall victory.
